So sorry to learn of the recent passing of Dr. Charles F. Rogers, one of the real pillars of the Port Washington Community for so many decades.
As the Port News for July 16 indicated, Dr. Rogers spent a substantial portion of his outstanding medical career at St. Francis Hospital including the period from 1970-95 when he was director of surgery.
We came to know Dr. Rogers socially because for a long time we would bring our wives to dine regularly on Saturday nights at the Port Clubhouse restaurant on Port Washington Boulevard, a restaurant run for a generation by Larry Rabago. We all agreed that Larry served the best steaks on Long Island.
Dr. Rogers and Larry had a great deal in common because they were both U.S. Navy veterans.
“Dr. Chuck” was a big, gregarious, cheerful man, and you would never know from his demeanor on those Saturday nights of the trials and tribulations he went through during the course of his daily rigorous medical schedule. He loved Port Washington, from its people to its great geographic location, et al.
Dr. Rogers – we all miss you. You were both a gentle and great man.
