I read with full interest Linda Portney Goldstein’s article about potholes on West Shore Road in the Jan. 19 issue of Port News. I hope she has more luck than me – it is all a joke to whomever.
I had $1,500 worth of damage to the right front side of my Ford Windstar approximately two years ago. (The potholes used to be much worse in that spot on West Shore Road). I was told that a sensor was damaged – I cannot at this minute think of the name, but lights flashed – and I had to have it repaired or it would not have passed N.Y.S. inspection. The repairman asked at that time if I did anything and I told him that I hit the area going about 35 mph, not realizing, and bounce, bounce, bam – on came lights.
I have friends that said it is a spring under there and they should run a drain, at base, directly into sewer. I have called many times and I have suggested this, but still nothing is done. I called town hall last year and was told it is Nassau County, not the Town of North Hempstead.
Several months ago, I saw a team putting some ash in holes, and within weeks, they were all broken again. I guess they are waiting for someone to get killed – say, going above speed limit and hit hard.
Thank you for your article.
