(Editor’s note: This letter was sent to Congressman Ackerman and to Port Washington News for publication).
I was utterly dismayed at the despicable tone of your column “From the Desk of Congressman Ackerman” which appeared in the August 4 issue of Port Washington News.
You have stooped to the lowest level of decency by calling “thugs”, “enemies”, those who have a different point of view from yours. It doesn’t surprise me however, because you’re marching to the same drum beat of your kind, i.e. misguided Democrats who call the “loyal opposition,” “terrorists!” You have indeed fallen into the abyss of irrationality when you refer to the Republicans (without having the courage to name them) as ones who… “would destroy government.”
I could go on to further illustrate and refute your vitriolic diatribe, but that would be lowering myself to your level, which is totally against my principles.
You incessantly bash the “millionaires”, “billionaires”, “Wall Street”, etc., in short, a segment of our society who has for most part achieved wealth through faith in our system of capitalism and hard work, something that you and your colleagues don’t know the first thing about since most of you haven’t done a decent day’s work! Just to refresh your memory. Your president, Barack Hussein Obama’s income as reported on his tax return for 2010, was in excess of one million dollars! Be consistent therefore and include him as well in your bashing! Or, do you play the double standard game?
You almost sound like a Marxist. Are you a “closet Marxist” by any chance?
Enough said. Hopefully you get the message. I will end by admonishing you in the strongest terms for defiling the institution in which you serve, and the district you represent with the above characterization of members on the other aisle from yours. To paraphrase what was so aptly said some 60 years ago… “have you no shame Congressman?”
Our hope in the 5th Congressional District is that someone worthy of representing us will replace you during the next congressional election. You once were quoted as saying, “If you don’t like me, fire me.” Well Congressman, the “pink slip” is in the making!
