Port News editor, Jackie Pierangelo, did a terrific job in reporting the story of how I was robbed of my life’s savings and personal property by my former caregiver.” (In Port News for April 30).
I did indicate in my interview with Jackie that the Port Police did a fantastic job in helping to arrest and prosecute the offender who refused to admit guilt after a mountain of incriminating evidence was presented to the Nassau County Criminal Court.
Though many Port Police officers weighed in to assist me in a case that lasted a full 32 months, I should mention three in particular:
(i) Detective Domino Morrocu…Dom began direct involvement in the case from Day One and is known in the area as a specialist in bank fraud. Detective Morrocu testified in my behalf at court and played a major role in recovering much of my stolen property. In King Lear, Shakespeare said, “Lear was every inch a king.” By the same token, Dom is “Every inch a law enforcement officer and every inch a detective.” Dom, I can’t thank you enough.
(ii) Detective Sergeant John Gros… Sgt. Gros also played a key role in recovering much of my lost property.
(iii) Lt. Brian Staley…though Lt. Staley was not as much directly involved in the case as detectives Morrocu and Gros, he was always there for me in regard to speaking with me on many occasions. Lt. Staley was always a calming influence.
