Claire Porter White, 78, died on Nov. 6, 2009. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert White and son Richard White. She is survived by her oldest son Jim White (Janet), her daughter Judy McCallum (Mark), son Charlie White, daughters, Cindy Alishauskas (Mike), Susan White and her “joy late in life,” Kristen Brizendine (Will); also numerous friends, seven cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Chester J. Huestis, formerly of Port Washington, died on Oct. 19, 2009 age 51. Son of Irene (nee Mioduszewski) of the Glen Cove Senior Center and the late George. Brother of Joseph, Marianne Coelho (Robert). Uncle to Victoria, Adam, Allison and Daniel. Lifelong partner of John Frisbie. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of caring friends. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Prayer service conducted by the Rev. Robert Romeo of St. Boniface Martyr Church. Interment private.
Ida Ioanna, of Port Washington, died peacefully on Oct. 16, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 37 years Leo Ioanna; her three children, Grace Bischoff (Tim) of Port Washington, Anthony (Kristine) of New Hyde Park and Robert (Restituta) of Port Washington. She is also survived by the joys of her life, her three grandchildren, Julia, Michael and Anthony Joseph.
Born Aug. 16, 1930 in Great Neck, Bruce graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He settled in Port Washington with his wife Marilyn Dietz Buckley in 1956. He worked for Citibank in New York City for most of his career. He received his master’s of finance from New York University. In his later years, he worked for the law firm of Cullen and Dykman in Garden City. In 2004, he retired to Viera, FL. In his retirement years, Bruce enjoyed reading, dining out and traveling the world with his wife Marilyn. After a noble eight-month battle with pulmonary fibrosis, he died on Oct. 11, 2009 at age 79.
Richard W. Sonnenfeldt, who fled Nazi Germany a teenager, became the chief interpreter for American prosecutors at the Nuremberg war crimes trials and interrogated some of the most notorious Nazi leaders of WWII, died of complications from a stroke at his home in Port Washington on Oct. 9, 2009. He was 86.
Shirley Barsky passed away on Sept. 21, 2009 at the age of 88. A resident of Port Washington for 49 years, she was an active and widely known member of the community who inspired those around her with her love of life, passion for social causes and the enjoyment of a rich cultural and intellectual life. She died peacefully at her home.
Mark Olds, a radio executive in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland and St. Louis, died on Oct. 8, 2009 at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, after suffering a stroke on Oct. 4. He was 88 years old and had lived in Port Washington for 41 years.
Mr. Olds had a long career in broadcasting. When he retired in 1982 he was the president of Riverside Broadcasting Company and general manager of the New York radio stations WRVR and WWRL. He had previously served as general manager of WMAQ in Chicago, WINS in New York and KATZ in St. Louis. He also served as program director of WNEW in New York, KYW in Philadelphia and KYW in Cleveland.
Lucretia M. Harrison, 88 years of age, passed away quietly at her home on Oct. 4, 2009. She was the widow of Paul F. Harrison and of Samuel Bogen. She is survived by her four children, Margaret Ida Havens, Laura Lucretia MacDermott, Paul Theodore Harrison and Charles Frederick Harrison; and by 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
