Dick and Margaret (Dolly) Scrofani

Marge Scrofani, 80, a long time resident of Port Washington, passed on peacefully, on April 24, 2009, in Charlotte, NC. She was born on September 1, 1928, in Mount Vernon, NY, daughter of John and Rose Retta. Marge and Dick Scrofani, high school sweethearts, were married in October 1946 and moved to Port Washington so that Dick could work alongside his parents, Joe and Anna Scrofani, in their store, The Premiere Market located on lower Main Street.

Marge’s first love was her family and had superb homemaking skills. She loved to entertain and was a great cook, baker and an avid gardener, who loved growing all types of roses. Marge worked at Nassau Stores in Manhasset as a sales clerk for many years.

She is survived by her children, Joe and Fran Scrofani, Lorraine Trapp, Rosanne Muller; grandchildren Lisa and Melinda Scrofani, Jennifer and Lee Trapp, Philip and Gregory Stalnaker; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Jack Scrofani; nephew John Retta; niece Rosemary Reilly; and the Holpit family, Ruth, Susan, Joyce and Andrew. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Dick in 1973; parents, John and Rose Retta; brothers, Anthony (Claire) and Nick (Pat) Retta; in-laws, Anna and Joe Scrofani; and grandson Jason Scrofani.

Services were held April 26 at McEwen Funeral Home, Mint Hill, NC.
