Friday, 29 January 2010 10:37Marie Theresa Jackson Francis was born in Port Washington to Ruth Jackson on May 24, 1935. She passed away on Dec. 18, 2009. Marie was a graduate of Paul D. Schreiber High School, the first graduating class in 1954. She married Vernon Oliver Francis in November 1955. They had two children, Lauren and Wayne. They lived in Port Washington until May 1971 when they moved to the Bronx.
Marie began her professional life as a switchboard operator for New York Telephone Company in 1954 working until 1959. She was a housewife for several years, returning to work in 1966. She was a para-professional in the Port Washington School System and Aldrich Nursery School in the Bronx. She then worked for 19 years in medical record cataloguing and management at Montefiore Medical Center/CHCC. She later worked for Jacobi Medical Center, retiring in 2002.
Marie is survived by her sister Edith Jackson Longworth; daughter Lauren Howard (Francis); son-in-law Kenneth Howard; son Wayne; grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Courtney and Kilea; great-grandchildren, Shaquel, Shaquan, Chole-Ann Marie, Kaleb and Jayden; nieces and nephews, Bill, Kevin, Donna and Andrea. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Marie was a resilient spirit whose faith in the Lord allowed her to live in a positive way. She was an angel for many on the earth, always with a kind word and understanding heart. She was a prime example of “Faith Without Words.” Her deeds done in love, said it all.
