Claire Porter White, 78, died on Nov. 6, 2009. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert White and son Richard White. She is survived by her oldest son Jim White (Janet), her daughter Judy McCallum (Mark), son Charlie White, daughters, Cindy Alishauskas (Mike), Susan White and her “joy late in life,” Kristen Brizendine (Will); also numerous friends, seven cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. White was a native of Long Island and transplanted to the south, found a home in Virginia nearly two decades ago to be closer to her children who had moved to Richmond. She was a ferocious reader, skilled baker and even in her 70s could be found e-mailing back and forth between her many children and grandchildren. With a powerful personality and great personal strength, she was loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her wonderful offbeat charm, biting wit, sense of humor, but most importantly, as a selfless mother and grandmother.
Arrangements were made by the Woody Funeral Home. Interment private.
