Born Aug. 16, 1930 in Great Neck, Bruce graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He settled in Port Washington with his wife Marilyn Dietz Buckley in 1956. He worked for Citibank in New York City for most of his career. He received his master’s of finance from New York University. In his later years, he worked for the law firm of Cullen and Dykman in Garden City. In 2004, he retired to Viera, FL. In his retirement years, Bruce enjoyed reading, dining out and traveling the world with his wife Marilyn. After a noble eight-month battle with pulmonary fibrosis, he died on Oct. 11, 2009 at age 79.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; his son Paul; and daughters, Donna Vlahos and Susan Martingano. He was predeceased by his son John B. Jr. Grandfather of nine, John, Nick, Mary Beth and Jennifer Vlahos, Susan and Lindsey Buckley and Anthony, Samantha and Gina Martingano.
Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. He was buried at LI National Cemetery with military honors. Bruce will be missed by all who knew him.
