Maureen V. Hanley (nee O’Flaherty) passed away March 21st after courageously facing several years of illness. She was 79 years old.
She was the devoted wife of Thomas (deceased), loving mother of Dorothy McGovern (Lawrence), Maureen Reedy (John), Ellen Whiteman (Brian), Thomas, Jr., and John (Jennifer). Enthusiastic grandmother to 15 and wonderful sister to Patricia Brennan and John O’Flaherty.
Maureen was formally of Port Washington and resided in her beloved Breezy Point, N.Y., since retiring. She generously gave 36 years of her professional life to teaching at St. Peter of Alcantara School, a vocation about which she was very passionate. Her life was marked by an infinite love for people, appreciation for God’s creation (“the beach”), remarkable and unyielding courage, a rich spiritual life, and an endless supply of gratitude. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in support of the Maureen V. Hanley Scholarship, St. Peter of Alcantara School, 1321 Port Washington Boulevard, Port Washington, NY, 11050.
