Friday, 04 May 2012 00:00Marie E. Vames, 90, of Southold for six years and Port Washington, died on April 26, 2012 at Palliative Care Unit, Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was born on May 2, 1921 in Winthrop, MA, daughter of Walter Lamplough and Anita Fougeré Lamplough. She was educated at Winthrop High School. She married Peter Vames on Oct. 28, 1945 at St. Peters in Port Washington.
Marie Vames was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Atlantic Hook and Ladder of Port Washington, Cow Neck Bay Historical Society, Jamesport Homemakers. She made beautiful baby bonnets and other needlework projects. She loved to make people laugh.
Predeceased by her husband Peter Vames; her sister Mildred Dougherty; brother Walter Lamplough Jr. She is survived by her daughter Anita Busby of Peconic Bay, son Stephen P. Vames of Babylon; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (one more due in June). Also survived by her uncle Walter “Pat” Fougeré, age 94. (They grew up as brother and sister) and her sister Margaret Cathey.
Arrangements were made by the Horton-Mathie Funeral Home, Greenport. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s RC Church, Southold. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Pegasus House Palliative Care Unit at Peconic Bay Medical Center, 1300 Roanoke Ave., Riverhead, NY 11901, Attn: Denise D’Ambrosia.
