Juliet Halpern, who called Port Washington her home for 55 years, passed away on March 24, 2012. Daughter of Samuel and Mina Regensberg, Juliet grew up in Philadelphia and Chicago. Later she moved to New York where she lived and raised her family.
She was the beloved wife of Richard and loving mother to her daughters Mara Halpern and Shari Basom (David). Her family also include six grandsons, Jonas Basom (Susan), Julian Halpern (Nicole), Ezra Basom, Ariel Basom (Carina), Jesse Halpern (Yu Kyung) and Noah Halpern McManus (Anabell). There are four great-grandchildren, Eli, Max, Luke and Grace Basom.
Also surviving Juliet is her brother-in-law Edward Halpern (Dianne) and their family. Juliet was loved dearly by her Warratt and Halpern extended family along with other family members and friends.
Receiving her graduate social work degree (MSW) at Adelphi University she worked as a psychiatric social worker in the inpatient department at Hillside Hospital for 28 years. Her specialties were adolescents, Holocaust survivors and families. Juliet assisted in the creation of unique programs at the hospital.
For several years she worked for the Shoah Foundation, conducting special interviews of Holocaust survivors.
Juliet was also a crisis counselor for the firefighters who were rescuers at the Avianca plane disaster on Long Island.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 6 in Port Washington.
