Former Port Washington resident, Jim Burke, 52, died Dec. 13, 2011 at Brookhaven Hospital. At his request, no service will be held. Jimmy was born March 11, 1959 on Long Island to Mimi and Joe Burke. At the age of 17 he convinced his parents that he could make a go of running and owning the Port Delicatessen. Knowing Jim as they did, they enthusiastically agreed. On a snowy December day Jim Burke literally became “the new kid on the block” and was the envy of all the seasoned store owners. He was an ambitious and successful entrepreneur at 17 years old. After many years of long hours in the Port Deli he decided to pursue other interests. He moved to Mastic Beach. Mr. Burke is survived by his parents, Mimi and Joe Burke; brothers, Tab and Alan; sister Robin; and his two children, Ashlee and Jim.
