Friday, 21 October 2011 00:00Marie B. Smith, 92, passed away Oct. 3, 2011, in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born on May 13, 1919 and raised in New York City. She worked for 25 years for F.W. Woolworth 5 and 10 cent store, the last 10 as manager in Port Washington. Marie retired after more than 25 years at Publishers Clearing House in Port Washington.
Marie met her husband, Montroville after his return from WWII. It was said he “Found his million dollar baby in the 5 and 10 cent store.” They were married for more than 50 years.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Lynne Forthuber, and her husband Herb of Benicia, CA, and her brother Rev. John Proppe, O.F.M., Cap. of Yonkers, NY; and grandchildren, Gregory, Russell and Chelsea Forthuber and numerous nieces and nephews in the New York Tri-State area.
Services will be held Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at Calverton Cemetery in Calverton, NY. The family prefers donations to the Salvation Army. Arrangements were made by the Passalacqua Funeral Chapel (707-745-3130).
