Ernest Jenkins, 96, a resident of the Willow Valley Retirement Communities, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Arbor View at Willow Valley.
He was the husband of the late Ivy E. Eadie Jenkins who died in 2006. Born in Port Washington, NY he was the son of the late Frank A., Sr. and Madeline D’Agostino Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins was a grocer and owned the Carlton Market in Port Washington, NY for 33 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, and Lodge #1010 F.&A.M. in Port Washington, NY. Ernest served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was happiest in life when he was able to spend time with his family.
Surviving is a son Ernest, Jr., husband of Debby Jenkins of Steamboat Springs, CO; a daughter, Jo-Anne, wife of Daniel McCoy of Fairfield, VT; four grandchildren, and a sister Leonore, wife of A. S. Johnson of Toledo, OH. He was preceded in death by a daughter Toni Ann.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 7 at 3 p.m. at the Thomas Auditorium at Willow Valley Lakes, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA with the Rev. William Lentz, Jr. officiating. Friends may greet the family following the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, NY.
