Richard D. Fraser died on Aug. 30, 2010, at his home in Port Washington. He was 78. His wife Fay Fraser said he died after an arduous battle with melanoma.
Wentworth D. Fling, long time resident of Port Washington, born in Lincoln, NE, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Morrow Fling (dean, history department, University of Nebraska), passed away at his home with family on Aug. 30, 2010 at the age of 98.
Marcelle Cowley, a long time resident of Port Washington, passed away on Aug. 10, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV, where she had lived for the past 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Terrance Cowley.
Edith C. Kern died on July 18, 2010 at her home in New Rochelle, NY. She lived in the Beacon Hill area of Port Washington for 37 years and also lived for a time in Manhasset. She had just celebrated her 95th birthday.
Frances (Fran) L. Dermody passed away on July 17, 2010 at the age of 94. She was born Francesca DiMaggio on Aug. 15, 1915. Fran was raised in a beautiful brownstone home on St. Luke’s Place in Greenwich Village. She shared this home with her parents, brother and other close relatives.
Carmela S. Stannard, wife of Edson L. Stannard and the late Robert W. Fraser Jr., passed away in her sleep on May 8, 2010. Carmela and her husband had lived in Naples, FL, for the past 25 years. Dr. Stannard died in October of 2009. Born in Brooklyn, Carmela grew up in her grandfather’s summer home in Port Washington.
Jean C. Milks (nee De Yongh) passed away on July 26, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Loving mother of Robert (Tina) and Mark (Petra). Beloved grandmother of Amber and Bray. Great-grandmother of Lexi and Blissany. Dear sister of Betty Clyde. Cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews. Also survived by many cousins. She will be missed by all.

Ellen Mary Mern (nee Robinson), age 80, a long-time resident of Port Washington, died on July 9, 2010. Predeceased by her husband John P., Ellen is survived by her children, John (Lisa), Joseph and Mary Balint (Richard); her grandchildren, John, Carly and Kaitlyn; and her sister Evelyn. She is also survived by her nieces, Donna and Deidre, and her nephews, Billy and Todd. Ellen was a member of the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church. Funeral Arrangements were handled by Austin F. Knowles, Inc. Funeral Home, Port Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 13 at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church. The interment followed at Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
Frank L. Ullman passed away peacefully on July 26, 2010 at the age of 96. Frank was born on Oct. 25, 1913 in Cologne, Germany. In the early 1930s, Frank left high school and moved to Holland where he took a job in the largest Dutch department store and took Dutch lessons from an intelligent, pretty young lady, Emily Konijn, a student at the University of Amsterdam.
