On the Fourth of July, the Port Washington Fire Department put out a fire on Manhasset Isle that started in the front yard of a house on Sintsink Drive West. The fire quickly spread to the house next door, creating two house fires that filled the area with smoke.
Firefighters heroically battled the blaze on this very hot day, with temperatures reaching a high of 98 degrees. Several firefighters were taken to St. Francis Hospital due to heat exhaustion after putting out the fire, but no one was seriously injured.
Many people gathered on the street to watch the firefighters put out the fire. Oscar Parada, who submitted photos from this fire, said, “I was so proud of the Port Washington Fire Department. It is unbelievable what those guys do.”
