Jordan Desner promised a unique movie going experience. He and his partner, wife Dara Desner, have created a medieval themed movie theater to house a state-of-the-art, fully digitalized facility with six screens, new leather rocking seats, and an expanded concession stand.
The official opening was Friday, April 26. There was a pre-opening party for film distributors on April 25, which was also attended by local elected officials. When asked how she felt just 24 hours before the grand opening, with workmen still banging and drilling, Dara Desner said, “The fact that we accomplished this renovation in just five weeks is incredible. We were determined and we did it.”
Mary Oldak, the manager of the cinemas who grew up in Port Washington said “It is lovely to be back in town. People have been peeking in all week and seem very excited about having a movie theater back in the Soundview Shopping Center. We have hired local students and they are looking forward to pleasing our customers.”
Nassau County Legis. Wayne Wink said the Cinemas, which occupy more than 25 thousand square feet, “Will help to restore the shopping center to its former high profile stature for the benefit of Port Washington residents and the adjoining North Shore communities.”
Friends Amy Myers and Susan Feld, both Port Washington residents, thoroughly enjoyed viewing Big Wedding on Friday afternoon. “The sound was fabulous, the seats comfortable and the popcorn was fresh,” said Feld. Myers added, “This is just what the community needs, a clean and comfortable movie theater.”
Desner, a Plainview resident, owns and operates an independent theater in Coram. Ticket prices are $9 for matinees. Adults are $12 for evening shows. Seniors and children are $9 at all times. There is an extra charge of $3 for 3D movies. Movie times are listed on line at Fandango.com, movietickets.com and soundviewcinemas.com. Tickets will soon be available for purchase on line as well as at the box office.
