Library to Be Transformed for Foundation Gala Event September 12

On Sept. 12, the library will be the scene of the Port Washington Library Foundation Gala celebrating the arts and honoring Patrick Foye and four long-standing members of the Art Advisory Council.

Patrick Foye, longtime Port Washington resident, is a director emeritus of the library’s foundation. He is a partner with Rivkin Radler LLP, former chair of the Empire State Development Corporation, community advocate and philanthropist.

Catchi Childs, Marion Klein, Marion McManus, and Ann Pellaton have served on the library’s Art Advisory Council for the past 40 years, bringing fantastic art to the library’s fine art gallery each month.

Senator Craig Johnson and Councilman Wayne Wink will be on hand to present grants to the library.

The Gala will be a cocktail extravaganza, featuring open bars, signature drinks and a beer garden, food stations by Ayhan’s Mediterranean Market Place, an art sale, and jazz performance by the legendary Derek Smith. Local bakeries St. Honore Pastry Shop, Sweet Comfort Bakery and Main Street Bakery will donate desserts for the event.

Mix and mingle and learn about the projects that the Port Washington Library Foundation has funded.

An art auction will be the centerpiece of this year’s gala. Artwork donated by members of the library’s Art Advisory Council and past exhibitors will be auctioned in conjunction with the event. Work will be on exhibit in the Main Gallery throughout September. Write-in bids will be accepted beginning Sept. 3, during a reception for the artists. Bidding will continue through Sept. 12.

This special auction provides the entire community with an opportunity to support the work of the Port Washington Library Foundation.

Tickets for the Gala are $200 and sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, please call 883-4400, ext. 180 or e-mail the foundation at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
