Large Turnout at Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Many people attended this year’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting, held at Blumenfeld Family Park on Sunday, Dec. 4, with the crowd total estimated at over 800 people. While the focus of the event is seeing the beautiful lights on the tree, there are many other highlights such as a Live Nativity, Christmas carols, hot cocoa and other refreshments, and a special appearance from Santa Claus.

The event began with a Live Nativity and the singing of Christmas carols in front of the large Christmas tree. The musical accompaniment was by Liquid Bread and Karla Calderon and Diana Truss were the singers in the chorus. Finn MacCool’s Restaurant and the Ayhan’s Mediterranean Market provided refreshments such as hot cocoa during the event.

Then came the big moment when the tree was lit with bright, colorful lights, which dazzled everyone in the crowd. S.F. Falconer Florist and Hefferin Tree Service provided the tree decorations.

To the delight of children, Santa Claus arrived on a fire truck with flashing lights. Santa waved to the crowd as he made his way to his seat in front of the Christmas tree, where children had the opportunity to meet him. Santa gave gifts to over 275 children at this event.

This wonderful holiday event is planned and carried out each year by the Tree Lighting Committee. The dedicated volunteers on this committee are Peggy Kennedy, Monica Jawski, Claudia Rudegair, Ken and Roberta Buettner, George Martin, Pia Haselbach, Sue and Tom Sullivan, Doris Markham, Linda Cole, and Marie Marcellino.
