Owen Costello has once again composed a wonderful photo essay tribute to some of Port’s local veterans for the Veterans Day issue of Port Washington News.
The veterans featured in this issue are Danny Grushkin, Conrad Yarmoff, Jim Duncan, Peter Ripullone, Peter Graven, Michael Corbisiero, Abe Seldin, Lou Ligeri, Don Orehek, Ed Balcourt, John Carranza, Jim Hagedorn, Al Schwartz, Karol Szaja, Joe Ceriello, Harvey Cohen, Michael Ragusa, John Di Leo, Sr., Jack Levinger, Jim Lynch, and Willie Adair. Each veteran’s rank and branch is included with each photo, along with the location where each veteran served. Readers will notice that the local veterans featured in this issue served our country in places far and wide such as Germany, France, England, Africa, The Philippines, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. In addition, several were awarded medals, including Jim Duncan who received the Purple Heart Medal and Conrad Yarmoff who received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals.
We thank all of our veterans for their remarkable service to our country; and we thank Owen Costello for all of his hard work in honor of these brave people. Please note that the community is invited to attend the observance ceremony at Sousa Band Shell on Veterans Day.
