Could it be no rainouts last week? ..That means a lot of games and even more good things for our teams...Let's start with varsity baseball...they are 9-0 courtesy of an exciting 3-2 victory of VS Central last week. The team now holds a 2 game lead on the closest teams with 5 to play...The varsity team is going to play a non-league game at the New York Yankees minor league stadium in Staten Island this Sunday, May 3. Admission is free... JV baseball won its 10th game of the season with a ten inning 2-0 victory over Valley Stream last week and is now 10-3 on the season...maybe a reason baseball is thriving in our schools is because of the collaboration of the high school and middle school programs...last Saturday middle school coach Spotteck coordinated a WBC "Weber Baseball Classic" at Guggenheim. The seventh-grade, seven/eight and eighth-grade teams competed in a round robin tournament. The varsity coaches served as umpires and it was a great event...Softball picked up their first league win over Great Neck South and now have a 2 game winning streak with a win over Hempstead... Boys volleyball finished second place in the Plainview Tournament after defeating Massapequa 27-26 and 25-16 to advance to the finals...The golf team is currently undefeated at 4-0 beating Wheatley last week at Eisenhower Blue 9-0...girls lacrosse is making the final run for the playoffs as they try to get wins against conference teams. Sophomore goalie Samantha Tilts has been outstanding this season with 111 saves and was recently named to the Long Island School Girls National lacrosse team. She will be competing with some of the best teams in the country over Memorial Day weekend at the School Girls Tournament...Girls track picked up their first victory after a couple of third- and second-place finishes...The Port Invitational is this Thursday and Friday...Marco Bertolotti competed in the Penn Relays mile run last weekend and finished first among NYS high school runners and 6th overall...he ran before 12,000 spectators!...
