Spring is here and our teams are in full gear...It is good to be an athlete this spring as many of our teams are solid playoff caliber teams...starting first with boys volleyball. They were last year's county finalists. So far they are undefeated at 4-0 and haven't lost a game!...boys lacrosse is undefeated at 4-0 also and just had their biggest win in many, many years with a 15-6 victory over Syosset...The undefeated golf team is 2-0 with an 8-1 victory over Wheatley and a 9-0 victory over Great Neck North. Home matches are at Sands Point Country Club...Boys track is undefeated having just beaten Massapequa and Plainview last week...The baseball team is 2-2 having had a huge win against top 5 ranked Wantagh 8-6. Home games are at Guggenheim...Badminton is 1-1 so far and play their matches in the new gym at Schreiber. The softball team is 1-2 right now but undefeated in the hearts of over 150 young girls as the team held a clinic last Saturday for kids from K-seventh-grade. The varsity and JV girls ran stations on fielding, hitting and pitching. Afterwards raffles, prizes, signed balls and Port T-shirts were given out. Next clinics will be over the spring break week...and who hasn't stopped at the red light on Port Boulevard and Stonytown? Now you can admire a sign put up by the county recognizing our girls tennis team for the superior feat of being Long Island Champions for two years in a row.... Finally, fresh off a 16-13 victory over East Meadow the girls lacrosse team held a Lacrosse Day play day on Saturday that doubled as a fundraiser for the Headstrong Foundation...10 teams played on 4 fields and helped raise over $2,000 for this great cause. Congrats!...lots of great things happening around the fields....check them out!
