I read with concern your recent piece titled "Earth Hour March 28: Fighting Against Climate Change," see the full article in the Port Washington News dated March 26, 2009.
While I commend the writer and every citizen for efforts to conserve energy, to tie those efforts to a discussion on global climate change leads readers to a conclusion that a correlation exists between human consumption of energy and global climate change - a conclusion that is patently false.
Even more concerning, the article makes mention of a "celebration" in our schools on the Friday prior to the event, where our children will have the opportunity to participate. This is nothing more than a sanctioned school effort to brainwash our children on the myths of global warming, it is unacceptable and the school district should be ashamed. Unfortunately it appears to have become entrapped in the phenomena of "truth by repetition" as the mainstream media continues to misinform our populace. It is no wonder our children are so far behind those in other developed countries in the areas of science and math - the schools spend too much time with our kids on the "alarm of the day" and not on real education.
The good people of Port should know that the globe is actually cooling, and has been for now over a decade! In fact, global cooling of the past two years has nearly erased the previous 100-year temperature rise of .6º C, causing climate realists to wonder how many years the Earth must cool before persons recognize the world is not cooking, instead it is cooling!
The Port Washington News would do well to share the results of real science rather than junk science concocted by alarmists like Al Gore and repeated by the mainstream media in the U.S. I look forward to a more educated discussion on this topic in future editions of our community newspaper.
