People of Port Washington, did you miss this recent headline? "Port Library Proposes Operating Budget for 2010. Zero Increase in Spending This Year."
It's all true! The Library Board of Trustees made that announcement as reported in the March 5 Port Washington News. How is that rabbit going to be pulled out of the hat?
Clue #1. Make sure you are at the Information Session at the library March 25. It starts at 7:30 p.m. and listen carefully as to how the board reached this target solution. Ask questions.
Clue #2. Recognize that they worked hard but were honest enough to admit that, because of reduced NY State aid and reduced interest income, there will be a 1.5 percent increase in the tax levy.
Clue #3. Now that you know what went on to make the headlines real, show up and vote on April 7 anytime between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and vote YES. If you're going to be out of town, go in and get an absentee ballot application at the Information Desk. You must vote YES because you know the continuing value of the great services this library of ours provides to each of us: outstanding speakers, access to great music and movies, helpful staff, community gathering sites and beyond all that, a Notary Public that's always ready to serve you.
