The board of directors of the Port Washington Children's Center proudly announces its 29th Annual Celebration, honoring three dedicated community leaders: from the PWCC family, Susan Bagnini; from our community, Jackie Pierangelo; and from our local business district, Patti Vunk.

Join them on Sunday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at H on the Harbor for a wine-tasting plus fabulous food and music. The donation is $75 per person. Please come to celebrate the honorees and show your support for PWCC's educational programming and scholarships for children of working parents.

For RSVPs and more information about PWCC's full-day and after-school programs for toddlers to grade five, including 2009 Summer Programs, please contact Donna Preminger, executive director (883-4864).

Susan Bagnini has been an active member of the PW Children's Center Board of Directors since 1985, serving as president, head of the Scholarship and Personnel committees, and is currently chairperson of the PWCC Advisory Board.

A resident of Port since 1972, Susan has been involved in many community organizations, including Guggenheim PTA, the PW Community Chest, and recently co-created an environmental group, PW Green, which promotes environmental education and preserving open space on the Port Washington Peninsula. Susan's career as a social worker has spanned from seniors to children, most recently working with the Port Washington School District Pre-K program, from which she retired last year. Susan and her husband Carl, have a daughter, Jenna and a step-daughter Karen, and enjoy three grandchildren.

Jackie Pierangelo has been editor of the Port Washington News since 1997 and a longtime supporter of Port's educational and cultural community. She commented that her work experience has given her a unique opportunity to meet so many of the people who make Port a special place to live. She also feels it's a privilege for her to be able to support all of the wonderful community organizations here and get out the word about all the important and caring things they do. Initially, she told us she expected to work for a few years and move on, but now finds it almost impossible to leave this vibrant community. "I could be another Ernie Simon," she quipped.

Patricia Vunk is the owner of The Dolphin Bookshop, Port Washington's independent bookstore. Always a generous community supporter, Patti, her family and staff are looking forward to the 65th anniversary celebrations of The Dolphin Bookshop in 2010.

Patti is a successful product of the Port schools. In 1970, her family pulled together to buy The Dolphin Bookshop, which Patti has run since 1980. Dolphin moved to its current location on Port Washington Boulevard in 1989, where most of the fixtures were even designed and built by Patti. These days Patti lives with her partner Robin and their three children, one dog, four cats and eight chickens on a farm in Vermont, commuting to Port on Wednesdays and returning home on Sundays. Logo
