St. Peter's Annual Timothy C. Kelly Golf and Tennis Classic in the spring of 2008 included a new Live Auction Item sponsored by auctioneer Dan O'Connell. Kelly and Patrick Dennis won the final bid to name St. Peter's Gym for one year in honor of Kelly's father, Jack Sullivan. The entire St. Peter's Family is delighted to have such a distinguished and ardent supporter of St. Peter's as the very first honoree.
Designed and donated by St. Peter's generous benefactors, Dan and Sue O'Connell, the sign can be seen atop the door to the school gym. Dan and Sue have volunteered to sponsor another honoree at the 2009 Golf Classic, so we are all looking forward to seeing who will follow in Jack Sullivan's footsteps!
Jack Sullivan and his wife Mary-Anne moved to Port Washington and joined St. Peter's Parish in 1967. They both became very active in the parish and St. Peter's School while raising their four children. Susan, Karen, Kelly and John all attended St. Peter's School.
Jack Sullivan taught Latin and Greek at Fordham Prep in Bronx, NY and he coached basketball at the Prep as well. During his "spare time" he offered his coaching talents and strategies to the boys of the parish through the CYO basketball program. He and Mary-Anne were also members of the Parish Party planning committee for many years.
When Jack retired, and finally did have some spare time, he helped count the collections on Sundays and was a lector at daily Mass during the week. He was an active and ardent member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, reaching out to his brothers and sisters in need, with love and compassion. Jack passed away in May 2007
Jack was proud to be a member of St. Peter's and proud to see his children grow up in the faith-filled environment and with the high academic standards of St. Peter's School. Now his daughter and son-in-law are following in Jack and Mary-Anne's footsteps, sending their children to St. Peter's School.
Kelly and Patrick Dennis are thrilled and honored to have won the auction that gave them the chance to celebrate
Jack Sullivan, all that St. Peter's meant to him, and all that he will forever mean to St. Peter's. The memory of Jack Sullivan will also be commemorated on a permanent plaque in St. Peter's Gym.
