Come on down and participate in the Port Washington Thanksgiving Day 5-mile run, a great event for runners and walkers of all ages. Held on Thursday, Nov. 27 at 8:30 a.m. at Manorhaven Park in Port Washington, the tax-deductible $25 participation fee goes to raise money for the Port Washington Community Chest.

To register, visit the Community Chest web site, www.portchest.org, or call 767-2121 for your registration form. Then, come pick up your T-shirt and race packet at Manorhaven Park Pool Building on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday Nov. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. All pre-registered runners with get a Thanksgiving Day Run T-shirt and a participation medal handed out at the finish line.

"This is one of the largest Thanksgiving Day Races on Long Island with runners of all kinds participating," said Leo Ullman, co-chair of the Thanksgiving Day Race. "We also welcome families to come and participate together, making it a great way to start the holiday, by running or walking before you eat!"

In addition, registration is available on the day of the race, from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Manorhaven Pool Building, with a registration fee of $40 (checks only).

The Thanksgiving Day Run is sponsored by the Community Chest of Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead. There are additional sponsorship opportunities available. Awards will be given to the top three athletes overall, male and female. In addition, awards will be given to the top three athletes, male and female, in 14 different age categories (from 12 and under to 70 plus), with a division for 80 and over, and a wheelchair division is available. Timing and results will be calculated by Finish Line Road Race Technicians. Results will be posted at www.flrrt.com.

The Community Chest of Port Washington is a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1949 to raise funds for distribution to local charities dedicated to improving people's lives.
