One needs to seriously wonder if we're safe! Why you ask? Well, for starters, our intrepid congressman, Gary Ackerman is quoted in the Oct. 23 issue of the Port Washington News with the following statement..."we are almost at war with China and Russia." Since he is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, he must know something that the rest of the country, we in Port, and the media know nothing about! If we are "almost at war with China", how come, Congressman, we are continuing a feverish trade with that country? We're even borrowing money from them to help bail out our banking system! Is the congressman alluding to U.S. long-range missiles armed with nuclear warheads, poised toward Beijing and Moscow? Are we on the brink of "Cold War II?" If that's the case, where will weget our caviar, sturgeon, and vodka from? How will we be able to do without these delicacies? And how about all these toys made in China? Will their import be stopped and jeopardize the existence of Toys"R"Us? It appears that the aroma from the congressman's boutonnière got the best of him!
Now to the next preposterous statement, this one by Mr. Michael Mandel in his letter published in the Oct. 30 issue of the Port Washington News. In it he states that we've been living under..."the most recent reign of tyranny." Now then Mr. Mandel, you are urging voters to vote for your candidate, which you have every right to do, however, the last time I checked into societies that live or have lived under a "reign of terror," the very last thing they could do is to exercise their right to vote. Hence, Mr. Mandel you are guilty of an oxymoron!
Reading both of these incredulous and totally misguided statements, one wonders...is Armageddon coming? Both authors would have you believe it. Where shall we hide?
