(Ed's note: The following letter was sent to the Port Washington Garbage Commissioners and printed here at the writer's request. Also please note that the writer advises that Commissioner Augenthaler has contacted her and asked her to contact him on his cell phone the next time she witnesses this infraction and he said he will track the offending truck down.)
To the Commissioners:
I have made this complaint before and nothing seems to have changed.
The last four weeks I have watched as the garbage collectors take all the garbage and put it in one truck.
The instructions provided to the residents say to separate "Yard Waste" from regular garbage. I do that religiously and make sure I put the yard waste in clear bags so there is no confusion. And every week all the garbage goes into the same truck.
If the carting company is not going to collect the yard waste separately, why are residents required to separate. I saved the yard waste for two weeks as last Monday was a holiday, just to see it get put in the same truck with my regular waste.
Does putting it in one truck save money for the carting company so they don't have to come back with a separate truck? They are wasting our tax dollars and our time and effort used to separate trash.
Does anyone monitor the carting company as they surely could use monitoring.
I have called the company and complained as well.
Please explain to me why I bother to separate trash.
I look forward to your reply.
