Welcome to Schreiber Sports "Around the Fields." We hope to make this a weekly column highlighting the previous week's games and happenings of Schreiber athletics in the district and preview the upcoming games. Here we go.
Schreiber sports are in full swing. The fall season began in late August with the football team beginning practices on Aug. 18 and the rest of the sports on the 25th. Great job to all the coaches and athletes to get a head start on the school year with their commitment to their teams.
Girls varsity field hockey kicked off the season Sept. 8 with an exciting overtime win over Great Neck South 2-1. Girls JV soccer had impressive wins against Roslyn and Elmont. Girls JV field hockey came away with 3-1 victory over GN South in the pouring rain last Friday.
Boys varsity soccer kicked off their season with capturing the Manhasset tournament. Did you see the big article in Newsday highlighting our boys varsity soccer team? If you missed it, click on to newsday.com and look for the soccer review in the sports column from Sept. 11.
Boys JV football opened their season against Clarke on the turf with a win 12-6. They play again this Saturday at 9:30. Save the date. Friday Night Lights is Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Check the athletics website on PortNet for exact times and sites for our games as many of our teams compete off site. We are fielding 19 teams at the high school and 12 teams at Weber. Something is always going on. See you "around the fields."
