Opinion

The "Revere Shopping Center" letter in the Port Washington News Sept. 4 was a good presentation of the facts surrounding Councilman Fred L. Pollack's plan to benefit the area through constructing single family homes, among other things, on the shopping center site.

I agree with the writer that "the lack of parking is a threat to the merchants trying to stay in business."

I've talked with many of them and they agree too.

Perhaps Councilman Pollack will find time to speak directly to people in Port Washington in addition to the people he must have talked with in his office area in Manhasset. The problem is simple. For now, everyone needs more parking in the commercial Port Washington area. They don't need more houses.

Just ask anyone who is not a politician, but lives or works in Port Washington. Start with those who work on Port Washington Boulevard.
