Ed and Dot Slade are being honored as the Community Chest's Citizens of the Year on Sept. 25
|
Ed and Dot Slade will be honored as Community Chest of Port Washington's Citizen of the Year at a ceremony to be held on Thursday evening, Sept. 25, at the Port Washington Public Library. The program, to which the public is invited, will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Chest's Citizen of the Year Award recognizes "a lifetime of outstanding volunteer service on behalf of the citizens of Port Washington" and has been awarded annually since 1969.
The names of Ed and Dot Slade have been linked to the well being of a host of community organizations, including the Community Chest itself, where Ed serves on the board. Among the projects the Slades have supported are the Chest's Thanksgiving Day Run, Mill Pond Beautification through Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, major sponsorships of programs for children and adults at Landmark on Main Street, the Education Support Center of the Port Washington Education Foundation, college scholarships through Littig House Community Center and a new ambulance through Port Washington Fire Medics.
"We are thrilled to honor a couple whose commitment to Port Washington has been extraordinary," states Richard Strautman, president of Community Chest. "On behalf of our board," he continues, "I invite members of the community to join us on Thursday evening Sept. 25 to celebrate and honor Ed and Dot Slade."
Community Chest requests that RSVPs be given to the Chest office at 767 - 2121 or email the Chest at info@portchest.org. Anyone wishing to participate in the journal being prepared for the event should contact the Chest office.
