I'm writing to express my total agreement with Chris Kiel's letter about skateboarding. It's unfortunate to hear that the police department still seems to be focused on this activity. My kids are older now, but five years or so ago, I heard from them about officers giving kids a hard time about skateboarding in public areas. As our town gets ever more densely populated, I'm sure the police have to deal with lots of complaints from people about skateboarding and other things teenagers do that make noise. But kids' rights need to be considered in balance with everyone else's. I think it's our responsibility to give them some room to run free, even if it represents a minor inconvenience for us old folks now and then.
