The Community Chest of Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead invites all to participate in the fourth annual Manhasset Bay Kayak Run, to be held on Aug. 2, starting at 9 a.m., starting at the Town Dock. The event provides an opportunity to explore Manhasset Bay via kayak, with checkpoints along the way to qualify for prizes. It is not a race and all are welcome. This year's suggested course will be over six miles but there is no need to complete it. You can do as much as you can.
The Port Washington Manhasset Bay Kayak Run is a family event open to kayakers of all skill levels. The Kayak Run is limited to human powered kayaks of all sizes and shapes. Come bring your own kayak or rent a kayak from Atlantic Outfitters at 767-2215 at a special reduced rate to participate in this community event.
Application forms are available via the Community Chest web site (www.portchest.org) or at the Town Dock, Atlantic Outfitters or the Twin Pines Food Co-op. The entry fee (donation) is $25 ($35 if paid on Aug. 2) for adults and only $5 (if paid in advance) for participants under age 20.
The event is sponsored by Town of North Hempstead, Port Kayak Club, Atlantic Outfitters and the Community Chest.
The proceeds from the Manhasset Bay Kayak run will benefit the Community Chest of Port Washington, a not-for-profit organization established more than 50 years ago to raise funds for distribution to local charities dedicated to improving people's lives. Community Chest funds these charities' programs in Port Washington, including services for senior citizens, children and teenagers, victims of domestic violence and others in need.
