Senator Barack Obama was recently quoted as saying: "Our conscience cannot rest so long as there are 12 million undocumented immigrants living as second-class citizens in the United States of America."

HUH? In the first place, they are illegal aliens and are not citizens at all. They are law breakers that have snuck into our country. In the second place, there are more like 20 million of them in the country right now and they are invading us at the rate of at least 1 million a year. Port Washington is being hit particularly hard.

While Mr. Obama and others use the usual talking points: promising all kinds of penalties and wait lists and all the rest, when they are in fact trying to grant amnesty to these individuals.

Remember we tried amnesty in the 1980s and you can see the results - it just encourages more illegal immigration.

Illegal aliens pay no income tax but cost New York State over 5 billion dollars a year because they get free medical care, free garbage service and free police and fire protection. Illegal aliens take jobs that are needed by our 5 percent unemployed Americans. They come here to have their babies and then these children are allowed into our schools. They also have free use of our libraries, parks and ball fields.

Illegal aliens represent a huge safety threat. Because they cannot be checked by our immigration services, they may be bringing in diseases that our children have no immunity against. They can also bring in foreign species that destroy our native animal and plant life. They live in overcrowded dwellings that present fire and health hazards. They drive without valid licenses and without insurance which adds to our pollution and further aggravate our traffic congestion.

I urge Americans to insist that our elected officials secure our borders, penalize those who hire illegals and stop giving illegals free services. This will quickly stop illegal immigration.
