Perhaps you've heard the old saying, "Don't tax you, don't tax me; tax that man behind the tree." So many of us feel we are that man behind the tree. We are those who work hard daily, remembering hard work brings success, and the ultimate American Dream. Or does it? We are unable, or too tired to keep up, or influence those who are making decisions in the public square for "We the People."
On Tuesday, May 20, our school budget vote will take place. Seventy percent of Port Washingtonians do not have children in public school; over 60 percent of our taxes now go to public schools. Taxpayers are worried they cannot continue to live in the community they love. They support superior education, but just like families and businesses must do in economic downturns, trim waste and excess and cut back spending.
We do not want an increase in taxes, we want a decrease! Please, vote 'no' to tax increases. Send a message.
