We say thank you to this community that contributes so much to the education of Port Washington's children. It is in our schools where the Port community comes together and shows our children how much we value education.
Many thanks to the seniors of Port Washington who visited Guggenheim School. They were interviewed and shared their histories with our fifth graders, who then created Finding Port, playlets of the stories of a generation and how they chose to live here.
Another community event occurred at our recent theme night. Guggenheim Shines Respect would not have been as much fun without the local businesses of World Taekwondo Academy; Kidfit; and Little Lotus Yoga leading our children in activities promoting respect. The Schreiber robotics team was a huge hit amongst the kids! The time and effort given by the teachers and administration in the preparation and execution of this night was an example of our teachers going the extra mile beyond their regular school day. Thank you.
The school budget is before us and the question will be "what is of value" and "what are we willing to pay for?" Here, again, we must thank the district staff and school administrators who have worked so diligently, opening the process to the community, to come up with a budget that is aimed at maintaining our current quality in educational programming. Working with the BOE, great effort was made to find a balance that will not overburden financially, yet not undercut the excellence we expect from our schools here in Port Washington.
We encourage you to invest in the educational future of Port Washington's children, and their schools - with your interest and understanding of the school budget. Thank you to the Port citizens for taking the time to learn the facts and what it means for the future. Thank you, in advance, to all Port voters who motivate themselves to get out to the polls on May 20 when the school budget will be before us.
And, last, thank you to our Port kids, who know that their job is getting an education. They are looking beyond this budget vote to their future.
