On Saturday, Jan. 5, the annual Elks Hoopshoot competition was held at Weber Middle School, hosted by the North Shore Elks Lodge #1458. The Elks Hoopshoot is an annual event for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 years old. This year there were 46 competitors and 18 winners gaining first-, second- and third-place awards. The winners of this year's event were Shannon Straggi, Samantha Asaro, Hannah Goldblatt, William Buckley, Matthew Schwartz, Jaggar Alagna, Max Mastbaum, Ryan Kriftcher, Johnny Nierenberg, Emma Nadel, Nicole Alechman, Suzanne Gil, Brian Chung, Joey Alagna, Ben Schor, Emily Tierney, Bridget Moody and Jillian Ring. The first-place winners advanced to the next round. Representing Port Washington, Emma Nadel made it to the third round before being eliminated, and congratulations go out to her on a fine effort. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Giamanco and the Leaders Club for all their help with the event and the Elks organization for making this a very special event.
