Originally a small event that attracted barely 70 golfers at Lido Beach in 1998, on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, Port Washington Youth Activities will hold its 10th annual golf outing where double that number of participants is expected. For the sixth year in a row, golfers will tee up at the Village Club of Sands Point on Middle Neck Road. The event is once again sponsored by Finn Mac Cool's restaurant.
At 10 a.m. that day at the Village Club, the outing's events will commence with a continental breakfast and registration. At 11 a.m., PYA Director Jim Cosolito will again present his always-competitive chipping contest at the practice green. A "shotgun" start follows at 12:30 p.m. A barbecue lunch is also included, as is access to full use of the club's locker facilities.
Upon completion of the day's round, all golfers will then move on to Finn Mac Cool's on Main Street at 6 p.m. for the awards dinner and prize raffle, compliments of the restaurant and its owners, Connie O'Reilly and Jim O'Neil.
The donation for the outing, which includes the dinner, is $225/golfer. Those wishing to attend the dinner only and not play golf may do so for a smaller donation of $80. Sponsor levels from $150 to $1,000 are still available, as are opportunities for prize donations for the accompanying raffle.
The PYA Golf Outing is the organization's premier fundraising event during the fall and has generated nearly $150,000 in net proceeds over the past nine years. That surplus from the outing has additionally been used to fund additional operating needs and grow PYA's programs that impact on more than 3,000 children annually in Port Washington.
As was the case last year, in order to abide by the rules of the Village Club, PYA is restricting registration to 144 golfers (36 foursomes) for this year's event.
