The PWEF Spelling Bee Committee.
On the heels of last year's success, The Port Washington Education Foundation is sponsoring its second annual All Adult Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at Schreiber High School. This event is full of family fun that will challenge your intellect. Whether you attend or have other plans, you can "put in a good word" for the PWEF's All Adult Spelling Bee, and sponsor a word. As a word sponsor, you'll personally select a word to have listed in the Spelling Bee program. You supply the word and the PWEF will supply the definition and dictionary listing to appear in the program with your name. It is a special way in which you can help support this event and help to sponsor the Spelling Bee that helps support educational programs in our public schools. Each word is valued at $50 and the submission forms are available on the website at or at the school buildings. It is not too late to "bee" on a Spelling Bee Team, even on the day of the event. The spelling bee will consist of about 20 teams, each with three adult members. The entry fee is $300 per team. The Scripps Howard Book of Words will be used and the announcer will use the word in a sentence and ask each team to spell it. Every participating team will receive the book prior to the event. Adult tickets are $20 now and $25 at the door, with student tickets at $15 now, $20 at the door. Make an evening of it, have some fun and help the PWEF raise money to fund educational grants for the students of Port Washington. This Spelling Bee is dedicated to the memory of Harvey Levine, long-time Port Washington resident and member of the PWEF. He was a man who loved words and was generous in sharing his love of words with us all. For more information about participating, call or email Karen Sloan (883-4181 or or Cathy Seldin (883-0342 or, or visit our website at Logo
