Donna Ellen Gelo Halevy, 47, of Greensboro, NC, passed away Feb. 17, 2007 at Beacon Place, a hospice residence, after a 10-month battle with lung cancer.
Donna was a loving wife and mother, and she was loved deeply by her family. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Barry Halevy, and their daughter Eden; her parents, Marilyn and Val Gelo; brother, Gary Gelo; sister, Laura Simpson and her husband David; nephew Petar Radulovic and his wife Jennifer; by a large and devoted group of extended family members; and by her babies, Bu, Lucy and Daisy. Donna enjoyed many close friends who considered her to be unique, warm, sincere, funny and honest. She was truly a gem of a human being.
Born in Freeport, Donna graduated from Trinity High School and attended North Carolina State University. She was an active parent at the Greensboro Day School, frequently assisting with drama and musical productions at the school and serving on the Diversity Committee. Donna served in various community volunteer positions, including work as a Guardian Ad Litem, an advocate for Montagnard immigrants, and a supporter of local youth theater productions.
A memorial service will be held March 10 at 2 p.m. in the Linda Sloan Theatre, D. Ralph Davison, Jr. Center For The Arts, Greensboro Day School Campus, 5401 Lawndale Dr., Greensboro, NC 27455.
