(Ed. Note: The following letter was sent to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli by Sands Point -Port Washington Republican Executive Leader Edward Green and is printed here at the author's request.)
First, I want to congratulate you on your appointment as Comptroller of the State of New York. It is a great honor and we are all proud that our Assemblyman has risen to such a high office.
Secondly, we have faith that you shall prevail and be an effective leader in the coming years. The personal indignity and invectiveness being bandied about at this time is abhorrent to us no matter what our party affiliation.
Even in the past, when we found ourselves as adversaries, we would never try to destroy each other's character or overlook the public service you have so graciously given our community. To question one's intellect and potential in any venue, whether for political gain or not, runs totally against our great county's fundamental core beliefs.
After all these years, I know from the past that in the future you will prevail. Good health and God's speed.
