Thypin Steel Update: Plans Still in the Works
In November 2006 the Manorhaven Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) met to consider the proposed development for the property commonly referred to as "Thypin Steel" at the tip of Manhasset Isle. The current plans call for the construction of a gated community comprising 96 units of residential "cluster" housing on the approximately 11-acre waterfront site.

Filmmaker Doug Bloch Packs Library
The library experienced only once in 18 years an overflow crowd like the one that mobbed the showing of 51 Birch Street with an appearance by the film maker, Doug Bloch, said a librarian who was there the first Friday in January. One hundred and fifty people occupied the main meeting room and 60 more viewed the film from a second DVD shown on a television surrounded by chairs in the lobby outside the meeting room. Many others were turned away.

U.S. Sailors Compete at Australian Youth Olympic Festival
More than 1,600 athletes from 20 nations descended on Sydney, Australia for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) held every two years since 2001. Organized by the Australian Olympic Committee, the international sports competition features athletes under the ages of 18 and 19 -- including many future Olympians -- in 16 sports competing at venues throughout the city. The year marked the first to include competitive sailing.
