A stream of warm, bright sunshine passing through wide-paned glass windows will greet customers each morning at 5B Irma Avenue as they eat their freshly baked scone and drink their steaming cup of coffee. After a long, thorough search, The Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café has chosen to locate their business at 5B Irma Avenue in Port Washington.
Under the guidance and oversight of a professional baker, men and women with developmental disabilities will bake fresh, homemade baked goods with all natural ingredients. The employment opportunities created by The Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café will assist them in learning new skills, becoming more independent adults and, ultimately, enhancing the quality of life for the people it employs.
The Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café will be operated by Community Mainstreaming Enterprises, Inc. an affiliate of Community Mainstreaming Associates, Inc. (CMA). CMA, a private, nonprofit 501 (c) 3 agency that provides services for adults with developmental disabilities, decided to develop a bakery/café to help the individuals that they serve achieve their goals of being employed in a job where they can learn, earn and be a part of their community.
Community Mainstreaming Associates, Inc. establishes and operates nine family-like residences for adults with developmental disabilities in Nassau County. CMA also offers Medicaid Service Coordination and individual support services. For more information about Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café or CMA's other services please call 683-0710.
