Left-hand Turn Lane Onto Shore Road From Main Street?
A robust debate is expected at next week's Town of North Hempstead Council meeting regarding the proposed eminent domain takeover by the town of the property at 310 Main Street, the southwest corner of Jackson and Main, for a public metered parking lot which will create 10 to 15 new retail parking spots to service the lower Main Street area businesses.
On the Bay
One would think that with all the boats tucked quietly away in boatyards and with the holidays just around the corner, that sailing would have ended here on Manhasset Bay. Quite the contrary. The last few weeks our waterfront has been rather active. Over at the Mill Pond, the model boat owners were out in full force on both Saturday and Sunday for just about a month. The same for the frostbiters, and the starting line has had almost 20 boats, both Ideal 18s and IC dinghies. So winter in our area does not mean that sailors give up their sport. Some of them may retreat to the indoors, or to skiing, or head to southern climes. But there are those of us who are determined to make sailing an all year-round activity. And those that do find that Manhasset Bay has great sailing in the off-season. There are less boats to crowd the area, and the wind is usually good. So for those intrepid sailors, the payoff for braving the cold is an afternoon out in the elements, enjoying a day on the water. Except this year, up until now, at least, the weather could be described as balmy, with temperatures in the 50s.
