Kristina Shackel-Wood, a former Port Washington Lady Viking Basketball Player (1990-1994) was recognized by Oneonta State College for her outstanding college athletic career from 1994 - 1998 with her induction into the college's Hall of Fame. With family, friends and her 3-month-old baby girl, Kara, in attendance, Kristina accepted her award from college President Alan B. Donavan, for her achievements in both volleyball and basketball.

Kristina was a three-time basketball captain and three-time SUNYAC All-Conference player. She was only the second woman to reach the 1,000-point scoring plateau, ending her career with 1,373 career points. At the time of her induction, she was the career leader in 3-point baskets with 171, shooting an impressive 40 percent from beyond the arc. Kristina's career ended with her leading Oneonta to the Conference Championship in 1998 and a first-time bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.

In speaking of Kristina, Coach Steve Garner said of her, "Without question, she was the best individual athlete I ever coached."

Kristina is currently teaching math in the Roslyn Middle School and is assistant coach for the Schreiber H.S. boys and girls varsity volleyball teams.
