Eleanor Bartlett Lapham, 94, died peacefully on Nov. 13, 2006 at her home at the Kendal-Crosslands Community. A native of Newfoundland and daughter of the Reverend and Mrs. John W. Bartlett, Mrs. Lapham graduated from Mt. Allison University in New Brunswick. She married John Alfred Weingart Jr. of Shelburne, Nova Scotia in 1936 and settled in Port Washington where she was surrounded by a supportive group of friends, especially when Mr. Weingart died in 1951. She was a gracious hostess and an avid tennis player and golfer.
Mrs. Lapham became a naturalized US citizen in 1952. After establishing and running a private nursery school, she taught fourth grade at the Greenvale School in Locust Valley. She married Edward W. Lapham Jr. in 1966. They traveled widely and enjoyed entertaining and golf. They moved to Kendal in 1986, where Mr. Lapham died in 1990. Mrs. Lapham sang, entertained and read aloud to friends at Kendal.
Her son, John B. Weingart of Kentfield, CA, her daughters, Eleanor Ann Teig of Oslo, Norway and Elizabeth Forbes Cullen of West Chester, PA, nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Lapham.
