Plans for Manorhaven Preserve Unveiled
The Village of Manorhaven hosted a public meeting to display preliminary plans for the Manorhaven Preserve and to receive public input. The seven and -1/2-acre preserve, purchased many years ago under a previous administration, runs roughly from Manhasset Avenue to Manorhaven Boulevard adjacent to Sheets Creek North. The village received a $50,000 planning grant from the Environmental Legacy Fund to redesign the preserve. The firm of Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, who were selected through an rfp (request for proposals) process, presented their recommendations at the meeting.

Special District Elections All Uncontested
This year the special districts all have uncontested elections. Water District incumbent Commissioner David Brackett, Police District incumbent Commissioner Maureen O'Rourke and Water Pollution Control incumbent Commissioner Richard Marra are all seeking re-election.

Kristina Shackel-Wood Inducted Into College of Oneonta Athletic Hall of Fame
Kristina Shackel-Wood, a former Port Washington Lady Viking Basketball Player (1990-1994) was recognized by Oneonta State College for her outstanding college athletic career from 1994 - 1998 with her induction into the college's Hall of Fame. With family, friends and her 3-month-old baby girl, Kara, in attendance, Kristina accepted her award from college President Alan B. Donavan, for her achievements in both volleyball and basketball.
