Members of the Port Washington Clergy Association gathered recently to plan this year's Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service, a Port tradition since the 1940s. This year's service will be held at St. Peter of Alcantara Roman Catholic Church, 1327 Port Washington Boulevard under the leadership of the newly installed pastor, the Reverend Fr. Patrick Whitney, associate pastor the Reverend Fr. Robert Romeo, Deacon Frank D'Angelo, and Sr. Peggy Tully. The service begins at 8 p.m.
The Thanksgiving message will be delivered by the Reverend Mr. Eldon Simpson, minister of the United Methodist Church since August 2005. Mr. Simpson and his wife, Violet, moved to Port from Farmingdale to assume the Methodist pulpit.
It's also a tradition at the service to introduce clergy new in town. In addition to Fr. Whitney and Sr. Peggy, we shall welcome Rabbi Carol Goldblatt, interim at the Port Jewish Center, and the Reverend Fr. Andrew Patrick Connolly, priest-in-residence at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church.
A free-will offering shall be gathered for the Twin Pines Co-op and the Mobile Medical Unit program, sponsored by the children, teachers and administrators of the public schools in cooperation with The Children's Health Fund. Worshipers are also invited to bring non-perishable food for St. Peter's outreach ministry.
Refreshments will be served following the service.
All are welcome to participate.
